0 connections now, but I had been using Bitcoin QT for a while without problems
I had been using my Bitcoin client for months on my Windows computer running XP.
One day, I have trouble connecting to anything else on the internet, but my Bitcoin client seems to be running okay. When I restart my computer, my internet eventually comes back, but I’ve had «0 connections» to the Bitcoin network for the past 2 weeks since.
I tried sending a test payment, and that payment was deducted from my wallet, but it never got broadcast. I figure it will get out once I finally figure out my connection issues.
I have my wallet backed up on a flash drive, but loading up that wallet data did nothing to help me establish network connections.
I am NOT stuck syncing. I’m just not connected or syncing at all. Everything else on my computer is otherwise running fine.
What is the best address and port to connect to? Are there good backup options?
If all of my addresses are correct, how do I figure out why I have 0 connections to the Bitcoin network, and how can I either reset those connections or otherwise get up and running again?

By using process of elimination , I would do something like this.
First, I would reinstall your Bitcoin wallet and see if it works. If it works properly, there was probably a Bitcoind configuration file that was messed around with in your original installation or you were using an outdated version.
If it still doesn’t work, install a Bitcoin wallet on another computer on your network and see if it works. If it works, than probably there was something wrong with the Windows configuration (maybe firewall or antivirus program is blocking access). If it doesn’t work, there is something wrong with your network (may be problem in your router, or internet provider)
On a side note, I wouldn’t recommend running a wallet on Windows XP if you plan to keep any Bitcoins on it, due to it being incredibly insecure since Windows stopped supporting it.
This is a weird problem. I have seen it cut you off if you don’t have IPv6 and the IPv4 to IPv6 virtual bridge (a service) running in the background, even if you don’t have an IPv6 router nor IP and subnet address listed in your modem.
Also, if you’re using Bitcoin-Qt, make sure you have the most recent version of the wallet and Pooler’s CPU miner (minerd) installed, that can cause a problem too.
What I suggest doing is contacting the pool owner and find out if there is a problem with a said port and protcol, many people use Scrypt algorithm and not SHA256D anymore (unless you use ASICs) and they don’t use the GETWORK protocol and port, they use the Stratum+TCP, which is default by many sites now.
This might be your problem.
Turn off or unplug your router and modem.
Drop to DOS and key this in at the prompt and hit ENTER.
Plug in your modem first and wait for it to initialize and connect to the Internet.
Plug in your router and let it do it’s thing and when it’s up and running, type this at the command prompt and hit ENTER when done.
After that’s done type in the following and hit ENTER.
That will give you all your connection related data for a renewed adapter and cleared DNS cache.
Sometimes the cache can get old and not have the correct routing information in it which can load to «Destination is not reachable» or similar messages, like the JSON errors in the minerd.exe and ultimately Bitcoin Qt wallet with integrated mining option.
There are quite a few things that can trip this up, perhaps this will solve it for you.

I downloaded this windows wallet today. I have windows 8. I only noticed it said «not synced» eventually I noticed on the bottom that it says «0 active connections» There is a large error log.
Meanwhile I didn’t realize it needed to sync, so I sent funds to this wallet from Bitconnect.
Is there a way to get this to connect?

scorpio18 commented Oct 6, 2017
Download this config file , it contain some nodes https://mega.nz/#!WQNDABhD!RJelGZ9ZJBDHVfT8jFO_l6jWM00puGcsBv5U6j6Rdc8 and then on windows os click on start and write this %appdata% and hit enter then look for bitconnectcoin folder and copy the file that you just download it to the bitconnectcoin folder and now start the wallet and wait for a few minutes and see if you get any connection

It worked using a pc. I could not get my mac to find a connection. maybe there will be an update in the future for mac but until then I recommend downloading it on a pc.

Thank you. 3 people have posted the same file to download. This did not solve my issue. The only thing next I will try is to turn off my internet protection programs. I have no connection and had sent in Oct 9 bitconnect coins to my wallet address before realizing that is said «not synched»
I am not in a network, only my computer wireless connected to my router.
sethmo38 commented Oct 22, 2017 •
I am in the same boat. Port 9239 is forwarded in my router for my IP address, but my bitconnect wallet just says (out of sync) and there are no connections in the bottom right corner. I am using the Win10 firewall and have allowed the bitconnect app internet access, I even turned off the Win10 firewall temporarily and my bitconnect wallet still did not connect.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
closed24x7 commented Oct 22, 2017
I’m in the same position as sethmo38. Can anyone verify the network proxy parameters they are using to make the wallet work? When I use the default port 9050 I get zero connections. When I use port 9239 I get 2-3 connections but no sync.
sethmo38 commented Oct 22, 2017
I figured it out. It did not create a bitconnect.conf file in my appdata folder. Download the bitconnect.conf file that Sayiha1085 posted and it should work.
closed24x7 commented Oct 22, 2017
What are you network settings?
closed24x7 commented Oct 22, 2017
All my firewalls are down and I did the port forwarding. I adding the configuration file with the nodes so I’ll see if it will connect by the time I get back home

Solution for mac users:
Download the config file from the following link as scorpio mentioned https://mega.nz/#!WQNDABhD!RJelGZ9ZJBDHVfT8jFO_l6jWM00puGcsBv5U6j6Rdc8
- Close bit connect wallet
- Copy the downloaded bit connect.config file into the following path in mac:
/Users/Username/Library/Application Support/bitconnect
note: replace «Username» with your mac user name - Repoen Bitconnect wallet and you should have couple of active connections.
- let it open and sync for couple of hours.
prabinjoel commented Oct 31, 2017
@efsaturn I’m glad it worked for you! 👍 I’m trying still to resolve sync issues. I have 3 active connections but taking way too long to sync!
brokerstar commented Nov 1, 2017
Hello Prabin, I than you for helping the people (myself included) who are stuck with this wallet on their Mac’s.
However I still can’t seem to fix it.
I’ve downloaded the file that you posted and it’s one that my mac says that it can’t open or read. But also I have no idea how you ‘copy the file’ to /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/bitconnect
I can’t figure out how to even find that location on my mac?! Do I use the search function, file function. I literally have no idea how to copy that file and place it where it needs to go 🙁
I sound like such a tech simpleton right now
prabinjoel commented Nov 1, 2017
Hello @brokerstar, You don’t have to open the file. Do the following to find the folder.
- type /Users in the search bar
- you will find couple of folders like guest, shared, and your username
- open the folder that has the name of your username
- then you can navigate to Library —> Application Support —> Bitconnect
Paste the file in this location. Close bit connect wallet and open it again. Let me know if it works.
brokerstar commented Nov 1, 2017
I’m not sure if it’s because maybe I’m using a MacBook Air?!
When I click on my user name, I do not have the options that you mentioned. I get the following: desktop, documents, downloads, movies, music, pictures, public, applications.
prabinjoel commented Nov 1, 2017
@brokerstar I think your hidden files are not visible
do the following to see all hidden files:
- Open Terminal found in Finder > Applications > Utilities or simply search for terminal on search
- In Terminal, paste the following: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
- Press return
- Hold the ‘Option/alt’ key, then right click on the Finder icon in the dock and click Relaunch.
let me know if this works
brokerstar commented Nov 1, 2017
Ok that’s the pathway I entered then. Ok so I’ve right clicked on the file and other than the name of the file turning blue, nothing else happens. I tried left and right clicking, nothing at all. All of the none faded icons open fine though.
prabinjoel commented Nov 1, 2017
@brokerstar May be look at some Mac forum to find a solution. In the meantime, take a backup of your wallet and store it somewhere safe so that you don’t loose your BCC coins..
brokerstar commented Nov 1, 2017
Thanks man! But there are no coins in it, I sent some coins from my Bitconnect account to the wallet, and they never turned up 🙁
prabinjoel commented Nov 1, 2017
That’s alright. It will show up in the wallet after you get the wallet to sync.
If you backup the wallet, (i hope you did this already), you can get your coins back using another computer or after you fix your comp.. 🙂
brokerstar commented Nov 2, 2017
Thank you again for all of your help. I took your advice and went to a Mac forum where in the end this was the command line that opened up the library for me to access: chflags nohidden
The wallet is working again now, so thank you so much.
Let me know if you have a Bitcoin tips/ donation link for your help! 🙂

@scorpio18: Your file solved my problem, thank you!
droppedin2life commented Nov 4, 2017 •
@brokerstar the reason you cannot see these file folders is because they are hidden on your mac, there is a simple solution so you can see hidden folders. Open Finder, select your HD. You should then see Applications, Library, System. Hold down (command)
(shift) for about 3 seconds. Thats, command, period, shift, then you should see all the hidden files pop up. Click Users — Username (thats you) — Library — Application Support — bitconnect. That will take you to where you need to copy the config file. However, I have done this, and although I have gotten 1-3 connections, it doesn’t seem to be downloading anything, no progress bar like I have seen others get.
giowaza commented Nov 4, 2017
Hi there, is there any other way to solve the 0 connection problem. As I have my mac connected and staking with no problems, but my windows 10 pc is not connecting. I have downloaded and pased the config file in the folder. still nothing. anyone that solved this without messing with router configurations etc? thanks
l33tcoin3r commented Nov 4, 2017
alright, I have read every comment and followed every piece of advice. I have turned off all firewalls, antivirus, what-have-you, before downloading. I’ve run as administrator. I’ve deleted all files except wallat.dat and started over. I downloaded the bitconnect.conf file and placed it in the bitconnect folder.
The only time I get connections is if I check the Connect through SOCKS proxy with a Proxy IP of 127.0.0.1 (default) POrt 9239 and SOCKS v.5. Even with the 2-3 connection I get, it will not sync. I check the debug file and nothing. not a single block. What am I doing wrong.
Also, I cannot modify my router settings. I’m in an area where it is not accessible and has been locked out by admin.
verdverm commented Nov 5, 2017
Same issue, has that file been changed?
- None of the addnode= seem to connect, despite many network configurations
- I don’t see a Username field or line as described in the instructions above (from @prabinjoel )
- Using proxy only disguises the connection issue
- Most of this determined from looking in the debug logs
droppedin2life commented Nov 5, 2017
I’m so angry, I’m gonna have to go buy a damn PC just so I can access my wallet. Damn it. I’m literally going to buy a pc today so I can access my BCC, transfer them out of my account, and back into BTC. This is absolute BS that I have to go buy garbage so I can access more garbage.
kapilmar commented Nov 6, 2017
In the bitconnect.conf file which in place in the appdata fokder, donI need to change the user id and password to something else ?
It says your user ID and your password ?
peterjmarko commented Nov 6, 2017 •
@kapilmar There is no userid or password in the config file, it is just a list of nodes. You need to place it in the C:\Users[your_username]\AppData\Roaming\bitconnect folder, and restart bitconnect-Qt. Then wait for a couple of minutes, and you will see it connecting to the nodes.

MY SOLUTION — MY UPDATED CONFIG FILE (WIN 7)
Copy the config file to the data directory C:\ Users \ USERNAME \AppData\Roaming\bitconnect
bitconnect_config_win_updated.zip
Okay I spent a couple nights working on this. Thanks to Wedwo and RJohnson3 for their helpful posts. It appears that the CONFIG file is missing and not in the data directory. The «install program» doesn’t really install anything. It’s more like a self executable that drops files into a hidden data directory in your user profile. Here’s my solution for WIN 7 32- bit and 64-bit OSes.
First disable all firewall and anti-virus programs
Extract the Bitconnect program to a new folder under Program Files of your choice. Run the BitConnect-window executable once to create the data directory. Then close it.
Find the hidden data directory C:\Users\ USERNAME \AppData\Roaming\bitconnect
USERNAME=whatever you are logged in as
Download the config file provided by Wedwo and append it with rJohnson3’s addresses. I will try to attach my config file here to help you. You can clean it up with a text editor. See the above link for my updated config file.
Copy the config file to the data directory C:\Users\ USERNAME \AppData\Roaming\bitconnect
Leave all firewall and anti-virus programs off and Re-Run the Bitconnect program.
The program should connect within a couple mins. Just be patient. Re-Run your program from the Program Files after installing the config file and create a shortcut for future use. Check the debug file Help | Debug window | Open Debug log and scroll all the way to the bottom to see the latest updates. It should say connecting to DIFFERENT addresses. If it only mentions one address, then the config file is not in the right place or not configured right. It should be trying to connect to multiple addresses.
You can add port forwarding (TCP, UDP port 9239) to your router but that’s optional.
Downloading should take about 3 hours +
Re-enable firewall and anti-virus. Add the program and port 9239 to a white list. You can always just use the default firewall in Windows 7. Easier to use. If the firewall or anti-virus gives you hell, just leave it off. I would not use your personal computer with all of your important files on it. Use a dedicated computer or junk computer.
Summary
BitConnect program = runs from the folder you choose (Program Files or anywhere)
Data Supporting Directory = hidden in the user profiles.
C:\ Users \ USERNAME \ AppData \ Roaming \ bitconnect
You can see this in the debug file at the very top when it is first created.
Install the config file here.
wessengetachew commented Nov 28, 2017
had the same issue and there response was
Bitconnect Support team : New blocks are continuously being created (about once every 2 minutes).
So if you don’t leave your client continuously connected, or when you’re connecting for the first time, then when you do connect it will be out of sync and need to download and verify new blocks.
You need to wait until download the bitconnect blockchain. Don’t worry about your balance, it will back in your wallet after download bitconnect blockchain successfully.
Thanks!
